Marée Noire is a cry of the species, a survival instinct against the elements. A final breath of life before being swept away by the Earth, or perhaps conversely, a battle to be fought against all odds to hold on before extinction. A poignant film directed by Quebec choreographer Chantal Caron, with the Saint Lawrence River as its backdrop.

Six dancers seek to understand the weight of the gaze of others and its influence on our bodies, expressions, choices, and actions. In the strange possibility of our self-destruction, the film questions, through the witness effect, our capacity for resistance and resilience.
