L'ÉCHO DES RACINES

SUMMARY | L'ÉCHO DES RACINES
2024 | 8 artists on stage | 70 min.
L'écho des racines is a choreographic project born from a fruitful dialogue between flamenco and Quebecois stepdancing. Bringing together eight experienced dancers and musicians, the work explores the links that implicitly unite these two traditions, while questioning the limits that define them in time and space. On stage, the performers move through a network of wool that gradually transforms over the course of their exchanges. Inspired by an underground phenomenon observed in forests, wool symbolizes hyphae (mushroom roots), which allow trees to communicate over great distances through their roots through mycorrhiza. Like mushrooms, L'écho des racines poetically illustrates in a contemporary approach the perpetual mutation of traditional forms nourished by an infinity of connections, influences and experiences. Both reflective and resolutely festive, abundant and accessible, this work brings together audiences of both dance and music. Co-presented by BIGICO, a presenter specializing in contemporary Quebecois stepdancing, L'écho des racines thrills both the artists on stage and the audience.
