CONTEMPORARY DANCE | STEPDANCING | IN SITU
LES ARCHIPELS
(I. Yaworski/P. Meunier)
Both dancers and choreographers since 2002, Philippe Meunier and Ian Yaworksi cut their teeth on many solo projects before combining their strengths into this collaboration. Their mutual desire to develop a unique choreographic vocabulary, inspired by traditional québécois jigs and body percussion, is the basis of what has become Les Archipels.
Born out of the traditional dance scene, they have developed a body language and rhythm vocabulary based on their deconstruction and exploration of traditional québécois folklore through the lense of a contemporary esthetic. This approach has permitted them to develop a unique choreographic signature inspired by their previous choreographies Monte-Charlesand Frictions.
Accolades and Misunderstandings
SHOW
Accolades and Misunderstandings is an invitation to plunge into the choreographer’s creative process and allows the audience a behind the scenes perspective of the creation, from the dance studio to the stage, and a detour of videoconferences. Instigated by reflections of belonging, ambivalence, and authenticity, this project is first and foremost about negotiation.Teetering between a dance show and a stage-mounted documentary, this new creation presents a deconstructed contemporary gigue and an alarmist folklore where the audience is invited to travel back-and-forth between the studio and the stage

SHOW
Frictions is an In Situ parading performance that travels with the audience through a mesmerizing story of our social phobias through the language of percussive dance and jigs. Frictions is an emotional and touching contemporary jig evoking the relationships between dancers in relation to themselves and to the spectators.
Often funny, often cynical. Always epic.
CRITICS
