On April 29, Chantal Caron will be honoured by Les Arts de la scène de Montmagny and La danse sur les routes du Québec as part of International Dance Day. This tribute recognizes her exceptional contribution to the field through her distinctive choreographic language, her deep connection to the St. Lawrence River, and her internationally acclaimed dance films.
In Spain, she is serving as patron of the third edition of the Festival Quebecuá de Cine Québec, where the Port-Joli–based artist’s filmography is being showcased through screenings of Glace, crevasse et dérive (2013), Clémentine (2019), and Marée Noire (2024). The film Prendre le Nord (2022) will also be presented throughout the festival, alongside a photography exhibition highlighting her major works and artistic approach.
Fleuve | Espace Danse will then continue to the Festival Vues du Québec in Florac, from April 14 to 19, where her cinematic works will again be in the spotlight. A fragment of L’Effet Marée Noire will be presented ahead of the screening of the short film Marée Noire and the opening of a photography exhibition, presented alongside the dance miniseries Les Images Cachées (2020). A choreographic movement workshop inspired by her artistic language will also be led by Chantal Caron and offered to participants.
At the same time, Marée Noire continues its international journey and will be presented in official selection in Germany at Filmfest Bremen and the Independent Days International Filmfestival in Karlsruhe.
To date, Chantal Caron’s filmography has garnered more than 30 international awards and over 150 official selections at festivals worldwide. She also received the Prix Étincelle | Pierre-Paul Savoie at the Prix de la danse de Montréal last November.
Chantal Caron is currently working on the post-production of her sixth short film, a cinematic adaptation of her work Êtres de Bois, filmed in Norway in 2024. The stage works Êtres de Bois and La Marée Noire will tour across Quebec this summer, and the Fleuve | Espace Danse team will also be in residence creating a new choreographic work by Chantal Caron.
